Quote of the day

Without ambition one starts nothing. Without work one finishes nothing. The Prize will not be sent to you. you have to win it.

– RALPH WALDO EMERSON

About me.

Growing up as a member of the Hmong minority in Australia, I quickly realised that my experiences in life were vastly different from those of my Western peers, as well as many other international migrants who had left their homelands for new beginnings.

Part of a military family forced to migrate from Laos, my father, the son of a high-ranking army officer, was sent to seek a better future after the Hmong people were labelled as enemies of the state by the Lao People’s Party in 1973 for supporting the CIA. With the signing of the Vientiane Agreement and the withdrawal of U.S. troops, many Hmong individuals, who had either fought for the CIA or remained neutral, were abandoned. My father was among the fortunate few who made their way to Australia.

Separated from his family and alone in a foreign country, he met my mother and built a new life. However upon settling into their new home, they faced daily challenges of racism and discrimination as they tried to build this new life.

Sheltered and oblivious during childhood, I later realised that I had grown up bearing witness to a remarkable resilience. My upbringing embedded valuable lessons on overcoming the challenges associated with belonging to a minority group – in particular, those originating from humble beginnings and struggling with lower socioeconomic status.

As a child from underprivileged roots, supported by a household with limited income, educational opportunities, and financial security, my experiences and obstacles have influenced my moral compass and ambitions. They have empowered me to stand up against subjective notions of social status and class, allowing me to drive towards my aspirations unhindered by the limitations imposed by others. It’s a journey that many can empathise with, but only a few can truly comprehend.

Experience, purpose and values

We are the product of our choices, so we must choose well. What we do today makes a difference, so we have to decide what kind of difference we want to make.

Professional experience

Over 13 years of marketing experience developed across various industries, including tourism, retail, airline, SaaS, financial services, business services and telecommunications.

As a senior manager, I have had the privilege of developing and leading high-performing teams to deliver strategic outcomes

Personal experience

Being naturally curious and highly motivated has led me down the business path. I started my first business in 2013 and ventured into multiple investments.

In turn, I used my professional experience to support migrant business operators like my father, who struggled to gain meaningful white-collar employment.

Personal purpose

Through my experiences, I have developed a moral compass founded on personal values and principles that help drive my ambition towards purpose.

I hope to inspire others like me to reach for one’s dreams without limitation. To support personal growth and break down barriers to enable their hope for a stronger future.

Honesty principle

Being truthful towards others and not deceiving for personal gain. As well as being truthful towards yourself, supporting personal growth and development.

Respect principle

Treating others respectfully, even if they have a different background or belief system. Most importantly, recognition that you are not better than others and choosing to support liberty and autonomy instead.

Liberty principle

Enabling the freedom to make one’s own choices about one’s own life. Without fear of social segregation (or retribution) and without limitation due to one’s ethnicity, gender, religion or education.
